New Gta Online Update Breaks Steam Deck Support

New GTA Online Update Breaks Steam Deck Support

Valve Issues Workaround for Affected Users

A recent update to Grand Theft Auto Online has inadvertently broken support for the Steam Deck, leaving many players unable to launch the game on the handheld device. Valve has acknowledged the issue and released a workaround for affected users.

Cause of the Issue

The cause of the issue is still under investigation, but it is believed to be related to changes made to the game's anti-cheat system. These changes have reportedly caused the Steam Deck's Proton compatibility layer to incorrectly identify the game as a security threat.

Valve's Workaround

To address the issue, Valve has released a workaround that involves manually adding the game to the Steam Deck's list of trusted applications. To do this, users should follow these steps:

  • Open the Steam Deck's Settings menu.
  • Navigate to the "System" tab.
  • Select the "Developer" option.
  • Toggle on the "Allow Unknown Sources" setting.
  • Launch Steam and right-click on Grand Theft Auto Online in your library.
  • Select "Properties" and navigate to the "General" tab.
  • Click on the "Launch Options" button and enter the following command: "-allowinsecurelaunch"
  • Click "OK" and close the Properties window.

After following these steps, users should be able to launch Grand Theft Auto Online on the Steam Deck.

Expected Fix

Rockstar Games has not yet announced a fix for the issue, but it is expected that an update will be released soon to address the problem. In the meantime, users can use the workaround provided by Valve to continue playing the game on the Steam Deck.
