76ers live to fight another day

Maxey scored 28 points, with 11 rebounds and four assists

Tyrese Maxey scored 28 points, with 11 rebounds and four assists, to help the Philadelphia 76ers beat the New York Knicks 112-106 in overtime on Tuesday night in Game 5 of their Eastern Conference first-round series.

The 76ers' victory cuts the Knicks' lead to 3-2 in the best-of-seven series. Game 6 will be played in Philadelphia on Thursday night.

Maxey, who had been hampered by a quadriceps injury, made his first start of the series and was a key factor in the 76ers' win. He scored 14 points in the third quarter to help the 76ers take a 78-74 lead into the fourth quarter.

In overtime, Maxey scored seven points, including a three-pointer to give the 76ers a 105-100 lead with 2:08 left. The Knicks never got closer than three points after that.

Joel Embiid finished with 27 points and 12 rebounds for the 76ers. James Harden had 25 points and 10 assists.

R.J. Barrett led the Knicks with 26 points. Evan Fournier had 25 points and Mitchell Robinson had 22 points and 13 rebounds.

The 76ers were without Ben Simmons, who is out with a back injury. The Knicks were without Derrick Rose, who is out with a knee injury.
